Severe Coffin Bone Rotation

Before Trim

 
This 9 year old gelding presented to the Fischer Equine Lameness Foundation Clinic with severe coffin bone rotation on all four hooves.  The horse had a difficult time ambulating and spent much time laying down.  Please see x rays and video before trim. After Trim

 
Three weeks after first trim at the Foundation Clinic, the gelding is comfortable at the walk, trot and canter on the rubber clinic floor.  The horse continues to progress and is expected to have complete recovery.  Please see after trim x rays and video that were taken three weeks after first trim at the Foundation Clinic. Seven months after first trim at the Fischer Equine Lameness Foundation the pedal bones are closer to correct alienment. The horse ambulates comfortably at the walk, trot and canter on the rubber clinic floor. (click on the thumbnails for enlarged view)

Ten Months After First Trim

After Trim

Ten months after first trim at the Fischer Equine Lameness Foundation, the horse was discharged. The video of the horse was taken just before the horse went home. A full recovery is expected.


20 degrees coffin bone rotation reversed

Before Trim

 
This 14 year old quarter horse gelding was admitted to the Fischer Equine Lameness Foundation Clinic. Upon arrival the horse suffered from severe coffin bone rotation located in the left front hoof capsule. The horse’s sole was bulging due to the pressure placed upon it from the decending coffin bone. Prior treatment included wedge pads and orthopedic shoeing; this treatment was unsuccessful; the horse’s veterinarian suggested euthanasia. (click on the thumbnails for enlarged view)

 


After Trim

 
Immediately after first trim, the horse was comfortable on the rubber clinic flooring. Hoof capsule trimmed to facilitate healing. After first trim, the hairline at the coronary band does not mainifest such a large decent as shown in the before trim photographs. (click on the thumbnails for enlarged view)

SEVEN MONTHS AFTER FIRST TRIM:

Horse continues to improve, sound on rubber at all gaits. Hoof capsule halfway grown out. Decent at hairline and bone column alignment on x ray improved. (click on the thumbnails for enlarged view)

Ten Months After First Trim

After Trim

Horse is sound at all gaits in arena. Concavity begining to develop on the bottom of the hoof. The gelding was discharged home, a full recovery is expected.
