Animal Contributions
Horses donated to the Fischer Equine Lameness Foundation
will promote the activities of the foundation through leasing,
sales and horse showing. The owner that donates their animal
will receive a tax deduction. The former owner of the donated
horse is welcome to come anytime to observe the progression of
the rehabilitation process of the horse. They may also choose
to purchase the horse back after rehabilitation.
There are several positive effects of a horse that is
donated to the Fischer Equine Lameness Foundation. The horse
benefits by being relieved of its discomfort as it is returned
to soundness. In many cases life expectancy is increased.
Amateur riders benefit by the opportunity to enjoy
companionship and competition with the rehabilitated horse.
Children that are not able to afford a horse may have
exposure to the rehabilitated horses through lessons or
leasing.
Finally, the scientific community benefits by the
information gained through public presentations in the form of
lectures and publications presented by the Fischer Equine
Lameness Foundation as it reports its work. Please see us at
the World Hoof Conference in Fall of 2006, we will be
presenting “Bone Remodeling of the Equine Distal Limb”.

Other Rehab Option
If a horse owner does not seek to donate their horse to the Fischer Equine Lameness Foundation, they may send the horse to the Foundation for rehabilitation. When the horse is ready to return to the pasture setting, the owner may take the horse home and maintain its hooves with continued trimming by one of the foundation hoof care professionals. If the horse is housed a long distance from the foundation, a list of suitable trimmers will be provided to the horse owner at the time of discharge. Please contact us for charges, as they may vary depending on condition of the horse’s hooves.
